Amber and I decided to go to Charleston for our 10th anniversary this year. We stayed in the Andrew Pinkney Inn downtown in the historic district. It was a great time. While we were there, we went to check out the College of Charleston campus wehre Katei would be going to school in the fall and we also ate at the local Italian resteraunt Manza.

Our first trip in our camper was to Asheville NC and we stayed at Mama Gertie's Campground. While we were there, we hiked to the Catawba Falls which was absolutely georgeous!! After our hike we went to the town of Balck Mountain for lunch at My Fathers Pizza and stopped by the famous "Town Hardware Store".

What a big day!!! Katie officially graduated high school today and will soon be at the College of Charleston. We got to see her walk the stage and receive her diploma. After the ceremony we all met up at California Dreaming for lunch with family and friends. I'm so excited for her to move on to the next chapter of her life but I will miss having her around the house terribly!!

Back to the mountains! This time we went to Pigeon Forge Tennessee where we stayed at the KOA in the Old Mill District. On our first full day, Me, Amber, Zack and Mackenziew went for a hike to see the Grotta Falls. Once we made it to the falls, that wasn't enough for the boys so we hiked the Trillium Gap trail to the top of Brushy Mountain. It was one of the most beautiful trails I have ever been on!! What started out as a 2.6 mile hide ended up being nearly 8 miles. Also while we were there we ate at the Famous Old Mill Restaurant and stopped by the winery where we tasted some of the locally made wine. One day Me, Amber, Zack, Trey and Mackenzie went white water rafting on the Pigeon Forge river with the Big Bear Rafting Expedition. It was an amazing experience and as always we had a great time hanging out with the Simons!!!

Zack Surfing
Tybee Island... This was our first trip with just Amber and I. We stayed at Rivers End Campground on the coast and at the mouth of the Savannah River and it was really nice. Of the two beaches we were close to, our favorite was the one at the mouth of the ocean on the Savannah River. We spent a whole afternoon floating in the water and fishing there. We also made it to the Tybee Island Lighthouse, North Beach Bar and Grill, Fort Pulaski, The Crab Shack and even rode our bikes all the way to the South Beach Pier and Pavillion.

Amber and I just wanted to get away for a weekend so we went to Fletcher NC. We hiked to the top of John's Rock and after that went to the Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. for dinner and of course I had to buy a growler and have it filled with beer to take for the road ;-).

Off with the Simons again. This time to Travelers Rest SC. The excursions this weekend included a trip to the Sky Top apple Orchard where we picked fresh apples and bought apple doughnuts, a stop in Hendersonville and the Mast General and a hike to the top of Table Rock. This was our toughest hike yet. It was a 7.2 mile round trip with an elevation change of 2.000 feet.

For this years guy trip, we ended up going to Lake Jocassee. The river house in Centenary got flooded from Hurricane Matthew so we stayed at Curt's inlaws cabin right by Devils Fork Campground. It was a great time as usual cooking some great food and just hanging out. When we went on the lake we got to check out some watefalls and we made it far enough north that we were in NC and stopped at the swinging bridge at the northern end of the lake.

Amber's Mom and Dad were able to come up for Christmas this year and spend time with us and my side of the family. It was a great Christmas. We went to my sister Susan's and had some great food and fellowship. Thanks Sis your the best!!!
